PRESENTATION: The risks posed by new wiretapping technologies
The following is a recording Susan Landau's plenary presentation. She's a Visiting Scholar in the Computer Science Department at Harvard University. Prior to that she worked as a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems, and held faculty positions at the University of Massachusetts and Wesleyan University.
Her talk is titled Surveillance or Security? The Risks Posed by New Wiretapping Technologies.
I thought that being spied on by the US govt was bad, but after listening to this, I see that the new wiretapping technologies don't just let the govt spy on us but open us up to insiders and maybe even hackers who can use the personal information to black mail or otherwise mess with people.
Great podcast. Landau does a great job of reminding us (in the US) WHY we have the Fourth Amendment. I doubt the average American (I'm from the US) even knows what it is, much less why it is important.
Thank you Patrick, this was great. Now on to all the rest of the new podcasts.
I wanted to echo Joyce, thank you very much for that. It was short but highly focused and informative.
I'll have to listen all the other podcasts from AusCERT. All as good as Susan's?
There are some really good ones there Dave... we got lucky this year in terms of recording talks that work as audio...
These were some excellent presentations; I was impressed. Is this level of quality typical of the auscert 20xx ? Does anyone know of any conferences in the USA with similar subject matter at this level of quality?
